THE STORY OF BARRETT’S

Coralville’s Beloved
Café Bakery Deli

Barrett’s is a neighborhood bakery and cafe, and the namesake of owner and proprietor Cory Barrett. We specialize in handcrafted, fresh and local cuisine served in a convenient fashion and a welcoming environment. Our deli cases and bakery racks are filled with handmade breads and bagels, award winning pastries, super-fresh salads, fruits and vegetables, rotisserie chicken, roasted salmon, artisan sandwiches…pretty much everything good to eat!

To drink…we’ve partnered with Iowa-based Stone Bru Coffee to roast a special house blend coffee and we’ll be squeezing fresh juice on the daily. If you are looking for a brunch or happy hour cocktail (or whenever!), we have local beer, wine and cocktails to scratch that itch.

Our sincere hope is that one might find themselves visiting Barrett’s multiple times in one day. Quick breakfast, your morning coffee, delicious and healthy lunch, pick up an easy dinner for the family. It’s Barrett’s All Day!

Chef Cory Barrett

Barrett’s is the culmination of a lifelong dream for Cory Barrett, who has dedicated his professional life to the art of baking and culinary excellence. Cory got his start growing up in the small town of Oak Harbor, Ohio, where he was introduced to the idea of a culinary career while spending time in the kitchen with his grandmother and mother. Inspired by the creativity of cooking and the action of the kitchen, he enrolled in the culinary program at Baker College of Muskegon, where he studied both pastry and savory.

After culinary school, Cory took the reins as a pastry chef at Tribute, the beloved restaurant in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Here, he met chef Michael Symon, who would become a longtime friend. After Tribute, Barrett transitioned to the award-winning Japanese restaurant Okada at Wynn Las Vegas as the pastry chef. During this time in the mountains of Nevada, Barrett continued to experiment with new techniques and ingredients.

By invitation from Michael Symon, Barrett was then invited to sign on as pastry chef of Lola. For six years, Barrett showcased his inventiveness with playful spins on classic desserts at this cornerstone of the Cleveland dining scene.

After a stint at The Herbfarm in Woodinville, Washington, Barrett was invited back to Lola for the position of executive chef. Excited to return to the savory side of the kitchen, Barrett cooked dishes that reflect Symon’s exuberant, approachable culinary style and overall vision, while bringing his distinct influence to the plate.

Cory moved his family to Coralville in 2022 to open this penultimate restaurant and is committed to serving the community and using Barrett’s to do good.
